Queens Cottage sits on a quiet street on the higher side of Wivenhoe, a small town on the River Colne that feels like a village whichever way you look at it. From the front door it's a five-minute walk down to the pubs, the restaurants and the river itself, but up here the street stays quiet. It's a two-bedroom Victorian cottage with an open fireplace and a private patio garden, which is not something you often get this close to the middle of the village. Dogs are welcome, and there's free parking on the street outside.
Inside Queens Cottage
Two double bedrooms sleep four, with one bathroom that has both a bath and a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for proper cooking, and there's a 40-inch smart TV with Netflix, Prime and Disney+ for evenings in. The open fireplace is a genuine one, not a gas insert, and it gets used. Out the back is a private patio garden with seating, a real find for a cottage this central. WiFi is fast and unlimited, and there's a washing machine if you're staying a few nights and want to travel light.
Wivenhoe, on your doorstep
Wivenhoe earns the word village more than most places that claim it. The Greyhound, the Black Buoy and the Rose & Crown are all a short walk away, along with a couple of proper fish and chip shops. The Wivenhoe Trail follows the river out toward Colchester and is a good stretch for dogs off the lead in the quieter sections. Wivenhoe station is five to seven minutes on foot, with trains to Colchester in ten minutes and London Liverpool Street in about 65. If you're visiting family or friends at Essex University, the campus is close by too.
Good to know
- Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 11am. Self check-in via key safe, with the code sent before you arrive.
- Free on-street parking directly outside the cottage.
- Dogs are welcome. Message us about house rules and the pet fee before you book.
- The cottage is over two floors and the stairs are steep, as is typical for period cottages in the village. It's not a good fit for guests with mobility issues, elderly guests unsteady on their feet, or young children who'd need supervision near the stairs.
